Re: 2nd Annual Veterans Day MTB Ride
Great ride, but it is looking like I won't be home by that weekend. Hopefully it is a bit warmer for you this year.

I might be able to make it. Have to adjust getting my son off to school and then time to drive to the start location.

I might have to throw the old Hardtail back together if the Blur LT isnt here in time...
But I'll have gears either way.

Currently working the angles on a kitchen pass. Should be an excellent opportunity to test out my new Psycho Genius tires...

Re: 2nd Annual Veterans Day MTB Ride
Well folks, I'm in on this one. I am also considering a very mild ride out to the ride. Would probably leave around 5 a.m. and just easy pedal my way over to Neustadt. If I make good enough time to stop in at a bakery somewhere in Neustadt for cake and coffee prior to the group ride then I will do so. Then a train ride back to K-Town. The distance is about 58 km on paths and road, so it should be far from exhausting if done at a very mild pace.
If I don't do that, then I will almost definitely take the train out to neustadt instead of driving, if anyone is interested, they do offer some group discount tickets.
Who knows, maybe I can tempt someone into my early morning antics again!

Ha ha, I had a post all written out chiding Jonesy for the idea, egging him on with dares for the rigid ss and all, but decided it was too mean to post! Dude, ride the gear-shifty bike and if you feel like more miles take a spin afterwards. The profile doesn't show all the roots and rocks! It is a beautiful ride, and worth the work. Don't bite yourself off an unchewable piece by trying to ride there and back afterwards!

Re: 2nd Annual Veterans Day MTB Ride
Does anyone know if that little restaurant on top of the mountain will be open? If not, we should bring our own brews... Just no hefeweizen, cause it makes you crash and concuss yourself.
Last year it was not open. I would suggest that everyone bring some food and a drink with them.

Re: 2nd Annual Veterans Day MTB Ride
Absolutely shifty bits and suspension on this one. And I didn't say ANYTHING about riding back afterward. The trip back will definitely involve Deutsche Bahn, and hopefully a semi-drunk, full-of-schnitzel, tired Jonesy as a passenger!eurotrash wrote:Ha ha, I had a post all written out chiding Jonesy for the idea, egging him on with dares for the rigid ss and all, but decided it was too mean to post! 58km of mild road riding really ain't that bad. I intend to take it quite easy. If the distance that's been posted is right, that means it'll be less than 90km for the day, and only 25km of it on considerably demanding singletrack, well within the realm of the do-able.
Besides, the route goes right by every single DB stop along the way, so if I find myself getting more worn out than I'd like to be before I get there, I'll just hop onto a train.

I was hoping someone might have a suggestiong for a good place to eat and drink AFTER the descent... So it could involve copious amounts of Schitzel, and french fries, as well as beer!

Hey, don't blame the Heffy!!! Half the people who drank Heffy made it down the Mountain just fine. Blame the Brat Wurst, cuz we had to wait forever which took everyone out of thier Zone...

Re: 2nd Annual Veterans Day MTB Ride
I am glad you guys enjoyed it. It was an awesome ride yesterday. Thanks everybody who came out to recon the route with me.
I hope you have a speedy recovery and get well soon RR, we'll get you back out there. Your bike seemed like it was still in one piece.
If you have a GPS, make sure to download the tour from the link on the first post.
