U.S. Forces MTB Series Race #1- Hohenfels 9 June 2012
Everyone who's interested should get preregistered for the Hohenfels race. Dave Baumgartner and his crew have put in a lot of work on the course and he promises a great event. He's even throwing in a trail run before the MTB race...included in the price of the MTB race. There's free camping for the event, as well as an afterparty. Hope to see a bunch of KMC Cycling jerseys out there! Link to the Facebook page for the race is below.

I am in for sure. I am at Graf next week and will be heading down from there on Saturday morning. See you out there. Not sure the idea of a trail run right before a MTB race appeals to me.

Just registered, pretty good deal, $25 for a 7k trail run followed by a 21k MTB race.

Nice...looking like we should have at least 4-5 at this point. Hope everyone is going on Friday. We can scope out the course and hang out. I know that George reserved a room at the place suggested by the info on the Facebook page. Anyone else planning on staying there or camping?

I won't be camping with an 8 month pregnant wife, so am looking into either the Gasthof Schöll outside gate 1 or the Sunrise lodge on base. We are going to Playmobil Amusement park in Nuremburg on Friday, but should be back in time for an evening preride.

Just got off the phone with billeting on base. They had a ton of rooms. I am going permissive TDY so I could make reservations. This is a sanctioned event for Permissive by the AFI (for Air Force types), so you can make reservatoins of that basis with lodgin.

So my permissive TDY just turned into a conference Friday there, so it is now a ordinary TDY. I have a big room at billeting and can offer sanctuary from the elements if anyone needs a reprive from foul weather camping. Should be there by 1300 on Friday. My conference is from 1400 to 1600, but really want to get a pre-ride in just to get a look at the course. Here is my number to get me if you arrive and want to hook up.

I should be able to hook up with you for a ride after your conference. I will give you a call on Friday to confirm the time. Are you coming to the meeting tonight?

No rooms left on base, so made reservations at the Landhotel Scholl just outside gate 1. I should be getting back from Nuremburg around 1800 and plan on pre-riding sometime after.
I won't be able to make the meeting tonight as it is my daughter's last T-ball game of the season. Please forward my gratitude to everyone that participated and volunteered selflessly to the Bike Rodeo. It was a huge success, with over 65 children receiving completion certificates. Next year will only be better!

Congrats all. We took 1,2,3, 8, and 26 overall. Haven't seen the breakout for age groups yet. I know we went fist and second in 18-34 and won 35-44 for sure though. It was a muddy ass ride, but a fun course.

Ya, was a great event. Dave Bumgarner and his crew put a lot of work into the course. He's only been there at Hohenfels MWR since last Fall, so hopefully the race will continue next year. Justin actually finished 4th in the tough 7k trail run before finishing 1st in the MTB race! Mike rode to an incredible 3rd place on his rigid SS...awesome! Really looking forward to seeing even more participation at the Rodenbach race on July 22nd. We can really clean up at the series this year if we keep things rolling! I would love to see Jim Sharpe back on the bike and if we could pick up a fairly strong female to ride, then we could make a clean sweep!!
Big thanks to Matt, George, Mike and Justin(and family) for making the trip! If anyone is out in Grafenwoehr over the next three weeks...look me up!

Re: U.S. Forces MTB Series Race #1- Hohenfels 9 June 2012
Not sure anyone was taking pics. It was really fun to be on a race course again. For those thinking of doing it, you definately should. You don't have to go just to win, you can go to meet new folks and chat with people. I realized I was done after my tire burped on the first lap, but ended up riding with a 15 year old kid the next two laps. He kept wanting to quit every lap, but I bugged him enough that he ended up finishing. I told him I didn't want to ride by myself the last two laps. We rode a quick pace, but just had a good time on the course.
I don't know what are going to have to do to slow Justin down. He ran a 7k on the race course in the morning and still smoked everyone. The UCI will have testers at his house very soon I think for of competition testing.

Re: U.S. Forces MTB Series Race #1- Hohenfels 9 June 2012
My son snapped a few pics and I will get those, including the podium shots on Facebook tonight. I also have a hundred or so photos from the Rodeo that I need to post, and maybe get to the web guru.
Congrats to everyone who raced, quite a stellar showing by the KMCC folks driving across Germany and sweeping the podiums. We do need women racers! Hopefully at the next race in Rodenbach, KMCC can have double the racers as Hohenfels.

Re: U.S. Forces MTB Series Race #1- Hohenfels 9 June 2012
No doubt, big day for the KMC crew in Bavaria! Not only did we put 4 riders in the top 10 and sweep the podium. I know Matt coaching the only junior in the race left a real positive impression on a talented young rider. Well done guys!
I’ll be anxious to see the results of Justin’s blood test. He probably got a “hot” brochen at the hotel. Nevertheless, impressive effort! I’m just glad I didn’t get lapped by Chad and Justin – ringers!
That was a great event, big thanks to Dave and the group down there. Looking forward to next year. I’m sure with a little interest we could work a "Clydesdale" category into the series..?
TriChick & Jim - we need you!
