Hohenfels USFE Race Report
Once again, Dave Bumgarner and his crew put together a great race at Hohenfels. Amazingly, it didn't rain for 2 days prior to the race, so the trails were in good shape. As Dave explained, it was definitely not a "Deutsche" race--at least 2/3 of the course was singletrack, and definitely more singletrack than at SiS, for instance.
He had 3 kids races too (my son did one of them), a beginners race, and an open race. A key decision was to have a separate beginner's race course and an open race course, which kept the trails for both groups in good shape.
Hohenfels was the most-represented group out there, with at least 10 riders. Wiesbaden had at least 4 riders by my count, along with at least 3-4 riders from most other bases in Europe.
I was the only KMC Cycling rider, though ghosts of races past were around. Mike Larsen was remembered as "the guy with the tattoos and the cow frame singlespeed" and during the race, I passed another rider who asked, "Are you on your second lap already????" I wasn't, and replied that I was still on my first lap. He said, "Oh, I saw the KMC Cycling jersey and just figured....."
Hopefully some more guys will come out to these races. There were 71 riders in the open race, something like 20 or so in the beginner race, and at least 5 kids in each of the 3 kids races.

Scheduling a race on the same day as Gäsbock is not a good idea...
