Proposed weekly road ride Empty Proposed weekly road ride

Post by BrianLask Wed May 30, 2012 8:40 pm

Give your input. I am just trying to get a ride going.
I have put in my votes

Day: Monday Wednesday
Time: 1730-1800
Location: On base (free advertising)
Distance: 30 miles
Speed: fast, not race pace
Course: hills (I like the Potzberg climb)
Drop/ No Drop: I say no drop (Attack climbs, wait at the top, safety.)

Thoughts?

Brian,
I like this. Mon & Wed are good for me. We will have the entire week covered by a road or Mnt ride!
Closer to 1800 would work better for me, as getting across town at that time has its challenges.
Hills and pace are good, don't want to be out all night.

When do we start?

I think that Wednesday would be the best day for some mid-week intensity. 1800 would work fine for me. 30-35 miles with several good climbs, some pacelining and sprints would be perfect. Let's recon some routes and make it happen.

The only problem with doing a ride just on Wednesdays is that you run into the cross-country series races. There are only two left but I know both Justin and I do those pretty regularly.

Ya, but the main issue is either competing with our own rides on Tue/Thur, or pushing the rides to Mon/Fri, where people are either trashed from the weekend, saving themselves for a weekend event, or are out of town. I'm all for having multiple rides a week, but we are not likely to be attracting huge crowds to the ride, so I thought we would start with one ride a week. Bottom line is that anyone can post up a ride that they want to do regularly and see who shows up...I'm all for more rides! Since the CC series ends in early June, it shouldn't be a huge issue.

Wednesday is definitely the best day if its a one day a week ride. I was just being selfish pulling for a Monday ride

If we run real fast, we can do a reverse T2 and join the group ride.

RR this week? Looking like a rainy week, but Tue/Wed afternoons look like a chance of clearer skies. If Brian is around still we may shoot for Tue instead of Wednesday...since he has only a little time left here to ride. Will be watching the weather and may just bring the bike in both days.

I can make it if the ride is on Tuesday this week. I live in the Potzberg area, so I'm pretty familiar with the local backroads/bike paths (paved).

I should be able to ride any day this week, we are a one car household now, so the bike is good to have. I am good Monday, Tuesday. If you guys want to go Wednesday, I can ride after the run, especially if you start at 1800. Maybe Chris can lead a ride and get a little hill work in.

Let me know what you guys want to do.

Good. So let's shoot for Tuesday(weather pending) and plan to leave from in front of the Southside gym at 1730. Hopefully with an hour after the end of the duty day, everyone can make it to Ramstein. Brian and I ran into some torn up roads last week on our ride, so maybe between he and Chris L, we can piece together a nice 30-35mi route with some climbs. See you all then.

Have any of you ever done the Schneeweiderhof climb (large communications tower NE of the Potzberg)? The North climb is 2.5 km with an average of 10%. I have a 35 mile loop from the Southside gym that includes that climb along with a few others if you are interested. This loop also has multiple bail-out points if needed. Here is link to the route:

Let me know what you think.

Chris,

That course looks great. Looks like it should be right at the 2hr mark as well. Let's go with it.

Thanks,

I should be there, that route looks perfect (as it rolls right in front of my house on the way back!)

We have done the climb up to Schneeweiderhof before. It was two years ago and the group went by a different name back then. I think Chad was on that ride.

Ya, I seem to remember a climb up toward a communications tower. The back of that one wasn't the infamous "Brian vs. Car" hill...was it?

It actually goes right past my place too, in Fockenberg-Limbach with about 8 miles remaining. We can fill the bottles again if need be.

I'd like to join a road ride this week, just post if it will be tomorrow (Tuesday) or Wednesday and what time, I should be able to make either. Assume the meeting place is the Ramstein South side gym.
