15 July Trail Exploration/Safari
I'm looking to explore the trail area around Herrchen Berg (Lambsborn/Martinshöhe) and thought I'd check in. I'll be free of my binding responsibilities soon, so maybe 14 July? Grab a bike, ride around some, cold beer after. Exploring new trail isn't always great, you gotta hunt around for the good stuff, but the first time on a tasty bit is real nice. Looking for a few hours, maybe a Woog ride's worth.

Re: 15 July Trail Exploration/Safari
I used to live in Martinshohe, so I'm pretty familiar with that area. That first tour on your' list is all either dirt roads or pavement...no single track or technical terrain at all. The second one has a little single track, but it still is a lot of dirt roads. If you're looking for nice long steady climbs that aren't technical and some beautiful scenery, either route would be decent.
Re: 15 July Trail Exploration/Safari
Huh. The openstreetmap.org makes it look like there's some trail up there. I'm not surprised about the farm roads up top, but I'm willing to search the hilltops out for some boar trails singletrack. There simply must be a section of sweetness there somewhere, among the bridges and creeks and caves up thataway. Anyway, I'm still going. It's my new back yard, and I need a "hospital loop" type of trail for afternoon exercise that is accessible!

I know where there is some nice single track up there. Or at least a section of it. I'll send you the Garmin link later.

If no such Trails can be found, one must put to use knowledge gained from IMBA workshops...

Re: 15 July Trail Exploration/Safari
yo,
i ride these trails all the time and could definitely show you how to link these together to maximize singletrack. i've found a length singletrack that goes along the ridgeline that i still haven't found the end of yet.
here's one of my rides: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
i usually do Sun AM rides due to saturday family obligations. if you want to ride the 15th of July, let me know.

Awesome! I've gone through the dividing draw on my road bike coming home from work a couple times this week... There is some nice looking terrain and a few trailhead markers. Looks promising for searching out a backyard loop!

I will still be on vacation, otherwise I would join this scouting expedition. I look forward to the followup ride!

Re: 15 July Trail Exploration/Safari
so, can we make this 15 jul? that's sunday, but the only day i'm available next wknd.
i'm also keen on earlier start times, like 0830. not jonesy's insane 0500 start times, but still enough time for a little beauty sleep.

George, your knowledge of the area would be helpful. If Brian can make Sunday, then that's okay!

Sure, that's as good a spot as any. 0830 works for me.

Re: 15 July Trail Exploration/Safari
just across L466 from the start point is a nice section of single track.
Re: 15 July Trail Exploration/Safari
G, you still in for Sunday? Powerpro had to bail, so it's just you and I. I'd still like to see the trails that you know up there. I'd be okay with keeping it simple, I don't need to get a 1500 hm ride in to make it worth my while or anything... I just want to get up there and get to know the area and log some GPS data. The soil will be thoroughly saturated, so shredding probably isn't on the menu. A little rain doesn't bother me.

Re: 15 July Trail Exploration/Safari
yeah, i'm still down. if its coming down like it was this AM, i'm not too keen on riding, but a light steady rain won't turn me off either. we'll make it worth our while but not kill ourselves either.

Re: 15 July Trail Exploration/Safari
Thanks for showing us the trails, George. There is plenty of riding to be done out there... plenty. The terrain underfoot reminds me a lot of Neustadt, except without the giant mountain.
