Iron Deficiency Anemia recommendations Empty Iron Deficiency Anemia recommendations

Post by Jonesy Sat Sep 01, 2012 10:20 am

Just been diagnosed with Iron Deficiency anemia.
They're still working on pinpointing the exact cause, which they don't think is anything too serious (other than the anemia it's causing).

This would go a long way in explaining my rather lackluster (even more so than usual) performance in the saddle this season.

Anyone have any experience with this? Any recommendations on diet/supplements etc.?
How did it affect your cycling, and how long till you felt you were back to 'normal?'

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Your results have not been lackluster compared to some of us! I would say real life is the reason you don't feel as fast on the bike. You are working a ton more and riding less than last year. You have promoted yourself out of spare riding time!

They will get the blood stuff worked out and you will be out killing the A and B side of Rodalben while we suffer through one side in no time!

Nah, it's not so much the workload that's put a damper on the riding, it's that I just can't seem to get up in the mornings and go riding. It's all I can do to force myself out of bed by 9 on the weekends.
The wife picked up some iron tablets and some other stuff as well...

Hopefully the docs will be able to tell me something more next week.

Just figured I'd see if anyone In the club had any experience with this...

Just think, a few more years down the road and we'll be asking each other for advice on erectile dysfunction. Ha! But serioiusly I had a gf a long time ago that had it, and iron supplements were all it took to keep her on track. I'm no doctor, but with the right pill you'll be wearin' out the mattress like a trampoline in no time.

Ummm I said performance in the SADDLE not the sack... Embarassed . But thanks for the insight anyway! I'm kind of hoping the solution is as simple as taking the iron supplements. I just started them this morning so we'll see ...

Iron Deficiency Anemia recommendations Empty This post is not going to be infomative...

Have you ruled out sleep apnea? I, too, have a very similar issue with energy and motivation throughout the day. Probably why I don't go on as many rides as I would like. I go to sleep and will sleep soundly all night, or at least I think I do, and then as soon as I wake up I feel as though I didn't sleep a wink. It's all I can do to function most days let alone go for a ride. Some days are better than others but at my age (32) and health I should be much more alert. I have tried Centrum, off and on, and I don't see much of a change. It boasts 100% daily value of iron. I still haven't gone to the doc about this cause I hoped it too would be an iron deficiency. I think that I am going to need to make an appointment. Something I also have notice...I am not a huge drinker but I do enjoy an evening brew or two from time to time. I can definately feel the difference the next morning between having a beer and not. I feel even more drained and worthless. Like I said, this will not be too helpful but I feel your pain!!! Good luck.
