The Sunday Stew Ride

Post by Slim on Thu Dec 02, 2010 11:36 am

For anyone interested in a little motivation and training through the winter, I will be starting a biweekly ride this Sunday, leaving from my house in Bann, at 9:00. It's a road ride and will be a steady pace of about 17 m.p.h. There will be 3 KOM and 2 Sprint zones. The ride is right at 45 miles and should take about 2.5 - 3 hours to complete. This ride is aimed at serious recreational riders and racers looking for winter training. The plan is for a group which can maintain a consistent pace with accelerations on the climbs and sprints. After the ride there will be beef stew served over egg noodles and drinks for anyone who gives me a heads up that they want food, so plan on pitching in a couple of bucks to cover eats. Chad was kind enough to record a GPS map of the route and elevation profile linked below. Send me a message for my address.

Join us for the ride this Sunday. If the weather is bad either there will be an alternate route, same route on mtb or cross bikes, or a mtb ride that takes about the same time to complete.

If you are riding and eating please give me notice so I can plan for enough food.

definitely wish I could be there. Sounds like a good time. I'm sure it's much better than the lonely snow-filled training days I had last year.

Don't worry Terry,

I am planning some kind of training type ride for different parts of the year, so there should be something going on when you get back.

So far there are 4 people riding (Chad, Jim, Erik, Jen). We will make a decision tomorrow on what we ride based on the weather. Anyone else in?

I may drop the rack and fenders from my bike and see if my off the couch legs and friction shifters can keep me in view of the cannon and sword battle ...

Jim has gotten me thinking about this one. How has the road surface been lately? I'm not a confident enough road rider to ride in any nastiness on skinny wheels.

I keep about a 16-17 mph avg speed when commuting (this includes stop lights, street crossings etc. And how busy/trafficed is the road you guys ride?

Thanks,
Jonesy

Hey Guys...I need some definite numbers for lunch incase I need to go get more food tonight. It sounds like a few more people are interested in coming this weekend, which is really great, but I need a heads up. Please post by 1900 if you plan on eating. Families are welcome to join, but again I need to know numbers. Thanks!

I'm going to opt for a mountain ride in the snow tomorrow.

I plan on making it a regular ride starting on the 19th aboard a new bike.

Thanks,
Mike

Hey guys,

It looks like snow in the forecast for tomorrow. I am still planning on doing the route at the normal time but on my cross bike. Chad and Jen are in for it as well. If you are planning on coming you might want to think about using a cross or mtb bike.

I am in .

Every bring a new toy so that we can give it to a child that is stuck in the hospital for Christmas. Around 5-10 bucks for the toy. This is a volunteer thing not mandatory.

Jim

Eric suggested this at the meeting and I liked it

Yeah, this is optional but would be greatly appreciated. The original plan was to give it to the toy bin at the KMCC, but that ended yesterday. If we can not find a drop place for them my wife will take them to the Pediatric ward and give them to sick kids there.

Since we have to cut to the saw blade on that back road I say we all ride the cross bikes again Plus what a work out you get from them.

See you in the morning on the Cross.

Sorry, just got done going to dinner with the wife. Bring whatever bike you feel you can ride, but they are calling for a bunch of snow and as of right now you will not make it out of Bann with the group on a road bike. I would advise either mtb or cross. See you all tomorrow.
