An interactive map of semi-close cross races. It is a work in progress, and I intend to create a MTB marathon dataset for the 2012 season. I have linked those that have links, and will try to update as needed.

Re: Cyclocross race map
Thanks for posting this, Justin. Do you know if these races have a hobby/sport class? Still don't have a German license. I would be interested in doing some of them.

Re: Cyclocross race map
It looked like most of them had a Hobby class, typically at the end of the day. If you hover over the icon, a pop-up is exposed and I tried to link the actual website or the rad.net link for the specific race schedule. Karlsruhe or the Saarbrucken races do not have any links yet, but I did race Karlsruhe 2 years ago and they did have a hobby class and a really good course at the city park. I wouldn't mind "riding" a few of these, and I am anxious to see the details on the Saarland races.

On the calendar but no information available as of yet, but the closest race to the community. Will update when rad-net.de posts more or Jim can find out info, such as will there be a hobby class.

4th or 3rd?
Radnet has it listed for the 3rd...is this right? Your post title says "4th." If it's the 3rd, then I'm in, but if it's the 4th, then I'll be out of town.

Re: Cyclocross race map
I would go with what Rad-Net has because that is the offical place to regisiter. Still waiting to see if they are having a hobby class not confirmed yet.

Yes, obvious choice is to go with radnet as that is where I pulled it from, so either I mis-typed it or it changed, but I probably just typed it wrong.

Re: Cyclocross race map
Sounds good...I'm in. This would be a great event to have a nice showing at. I have seen guys race their MTB bikes, so all you guys/gals out there w/out a CX bike can come out and race the hobby class on the MTB. It would be cool to throw up an EZ-UP and hang for a while!

Stelzenberg Cyclocross course
Hey all on my ride home from work I seen that the course was marked.
I did one easy lap and one half effort lap it took 5 minutes to do the course with out the run up on the steps.
He is the course desciption.
Start on a hill about 1:15 to ride up steep at the start then tapers out on to a set of cobbles then to a dirt road. Make a right into the pasture grass and rough. This area has several turns to weave around and one set of logs to cross. One the easy lap I got off and lift the bike over. The half effort I did a wheel let the chain ring hit and road over them. at the end of the field you turn right onto the road the we ride up on the G-woog ride. Here we have a fast decent to just past the sharp curve left the right. Make another right onto some single track with a sweeping right into a hard left that will make right turn up the hill agian. No you are going staight for a small section then turn right back onto the start finish.
The hill and the field will be the two make or breaking point.
Hope to see alot of KMCC folks at 10 for the Hobby class. I might try and do both this and the senior.
I race at 2pm for the senior.
Jim

Re: Cyclocross race map
I'm planning on being there and taking up some space on the race course.
I'll be riding out from Kaiserslautern and will probably be there at 9ish.

Interesting morning in Stelzenberg
I can't say that my first cyclocross race went off as planned...had I been writing the script, but it was one I'll remember. I arrived in Stelzenberg well before the crowds, almost 2 hours before race time. They were just getting the start/finish area assembled, so there was plenty of time for a few scouting laps. The weather was pretty classic cyclocross w/ a light sprinkle and about 40 degrees. I threw on my gear and headed out. Not more than 10 feet from the car I attempted to shift the rear derailleur(SRAM Force) and the aluminum shift paddle broke clean off and went ting-ta-ting-tangling across the pavement. It didn't take me long to realize that my race day was OVER. If it had been the front derailleur, then no biggie...but clearly, this was biggie. But then it occurred to me that I still had one and a half hours until race time, it was 30min round trip to the house, and I was allowed to ride my MTB in the hobby class...so off I flew! Back in about 40min, with the Superfly and still had time to warm up. Hooked up with MJ and Sharpe to check out the course. To my surprise, I wasn't going to be at a severe disadvantage with the MTB. The first technical section was in a slick, grass-covered and very bumpy field, where the front suspension came in very handy. The fast fire road section was downhill, so no real problem there, and my extra gearing was a definite advantage on the hills. Only real disadvantage was getting the big rig up the stair climb 5+ times, but all-in-all wasn't so bad. MJ and I lined up for the hobby class race and before we really knew what was going off, they blew the whistle! Three sandbaggers...I mean riders, flew off the front, never to be seen again. MJ, myself and one other guy settled into a group and worked together for several laps. on lap 3 or 4, MJ had a tricky dismount in the field and ended up losing contact. He flatted a short time later, but was looking very strong. I stayed with the other guy in our group and we started the bell lap together. I should have made a move in the bumpy section, where I had an advantage on the MTB, but instead thought I could catch him by surprise in the finishing section where it was possible to go 2-wide. Well...that didn't happen, so I settled for 5th in my CX debut...on a 29er. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to hang out, because we were heading out of town around lunch time. In my haste to get out of there I locked my keys in the car! Luckily, Jim's race wasn't for several more hours, so he ran me back home to fetch the keys. After getting back to the race venue, I jumped in the car, only to smell something horrendous, which turned out to be a huge chunk of dog doo on the bottom of my shoe! Ya...it was just that kind of morning. A whole lot of drama and driving for 30min of racing...but I have definitely caught the cyclocross bug, and am looking forward to actually racing my cx bike...sans the crap SRAM group that can be found in my trash on Monday morning...if anyone is interested.

Re: Cyclocross race map
Chad - I hope the vino and good company were better than the first half of your day! Nice work on your debut, sorry to leave you hanging. I'm sure you would have been looking at a podium finish had the licensed riders been in their class.
Jim - nice work on your race, sorry I couldn't stick around for support.
If anyone is interested in traveling to some of the other races, within reason, I'll pitch in for gas, entrance fees, etc.

Re: Cyclocross race map
Well I had a better day and that Chad did for his first cyclo-cross race Kind of had a bad start of the day also. I had pre road the course on Thursday and Friday so I would have the course down. I road over about 45 minute early and meet up with MJ we talked about the course and he told me about a few changes. MJ and I started to pre ride the course and on the back side down hill I let it roll. At the last minute in last fast downhill turn I looked up and seen that they change the course and I could not stop in time. I went right into the tape that helped stop me but not before I went over the handlebars and into the trees. When I looked up my bike was still going. Lucky for me not damage to me or the bike. After that we meet up with Chad and Mark. Mark was the support crew and photographer for us. Chad and MJ lined up for the race with Marvin (Armin’s son) he is a Category A German license racers along with the other two on the front row. They started off well and by the first lap the front three had a gap of 40 seconds on our group of three. The wind was blowing hard with a slight rain that mad for the climb from the Start to the first turn very pain. Chad and MJ did well working together until a poor dismount and then a flat tire by MJ. They would have been 1st or 2nd if the sand baggers would not have been in the race.
My race started at 2pm and was 45 minutes or 9 laps. It was nice to see Steve there at motivate me. I was about to say time to go home its cold, wind and wet. But since he was there I would race. Steve thanks for your support and the Glue Wine afterward. I need to race since I had already paid. When I went to the line they lined us up by popularity which I got to line up very last. So I had 28 riders in front of me on the start. By the first turn I was able to pass 15 of them. I was not able to get onto the lead group from there it would have been better to start up front so I could have drafted on that front group for the headwind climb. I got into a group of three. For several laps they would pass me on the starting climb and then I would pass them on the grass section crossing the horse pasture. Then we would change position on the climb. On about the 7th lap we dropped one so it was between me and the other guy. I figured that I would pass him at the entrance to the pasture and the go for it on the descent. Well he must have thought the same thing because he went really hard on the climb and opened a small but big enough gap that I could not close in the pasture. I was able to just get to about 20 feet from him at the turn to the finish line. I end up 13th for the day I think if I would have started more towards the front I would have been able to do better. The only way to start more towards the front is to do more races and finish better. I still had a good time. Hope to have more folks come out and race and be supporters. Great Job Chad and MJ. Thanks for coming out Mark and Steve. See you all next time.

Yes, Mike, the rest of my weekend was MUCH better. Nikki and I had an awesome stay up on the Mosel at Weich winery/restaurant/hotel. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great overnight escape!
Jim...sounds like you did some good work in that race. Would love to do a CX race with you, but that would involve you doing the hobby class, or me getting a Germany race license. I think that the former is more likely :O)
I'm planning on a Sunday Stew Ride this weekend, so let's hope the weather cooperates!
