Stew Ride anyone??
Well...it's that time of year again. Daylight Saving Time ends this weekend and we will be plunging again into the darkness. One bright point is the return of the Stew Ride. There is a small chance that I will be doing a cross race on Sunday, but a better chance that I will be riding the Stew Ride route. If there is interest, then I will officially kick off the Stew Ride season w/ food at my place afterwards. The usual ride is at a moderate road pace with some accelerations on the hills and a few sprints. I plan to do the first iteration at a VERY reasonable pace, in order to orient any new riders to the route. Post up if you are interested in joining.

Re: Stew Ride anyone??
Looks like the cx race is off, so I'm planning to get th first Stew Ride rolling. The start will be at 0900 at my place(Am Kahlenberg 15 Bann). Number is hard to see, so there's a white BMW wagon in the driveway...and a bunch of pumpkins on the steps. Definitely a casual pace, so it should take 2:45-3:00 hrs for the 45 mi. Really nice course with great climbs, so come and check it out. Eats at my place afterwards.

@big wheel...no worries about food..we've got it for this week. @Jonesy...definitely come out for the ride if u can make it. It's looking like nice conditions, so I plan to ride the road bike. Later iterations may be cx bike with road tires or cx tires.

No worries, Jim. See you around 0930. Looks a little damp out there, but should still be good.

Good ride fellas. Thanx for showing me the rules of the road. Definitely a more team/social experience than mtbing.
If y'all will humor me on those last two climbs again next time, i think ill join you again in 2 weeks.
I just gotta get the knack of hanging onto the wheel in front of me during the paceline.

Jonesy,
That is was this ride is about socializing and improving technics and skills on the road. Just need to spin on the hills. I forgot that I put a 11x21 cassette on for when I sent the bike to michigan to ride while on leave. Need to get a 23 or 25 put back on.
great ride looking forward to many more.
Till next time.

Re: Stew Ride anyone??
Thanks all for coming out. Decent conditions, despite the damp roads. Hopefully we got our flats/exploding hub issues out of the way for the rest of the off-season riding. Would be great to have a regular group of 5+ for this ride. Definitely makes for more interesting sprints/climbs. Looking at making it a regular thing every 2 wks. Big thanks to my wife, Nikki, for refueling some seriously calorie depleted riders(me, Tim, Jonesy). I'll continue in the Stew Ride tradition with a full report on the next ride...once the festivities, ie KOM/Sprint points, have begun.

Re: Stew Ride anyone??
Gents,
I look forward to getting in on these rides with you. Sorry for missing the opening games/route...got sick a couple weeks back and it took a little time to get the mind settled back to the bike. Not to mention the wife had surgery, thus it was a bust regardless. Anyways...looks to be a good time. Additionally, very interested in the ideas being tossed around concerning starting a KMC Cycling road race team.

Re: Stew Ride anyone??
That was a great ride with unbelievable weather, and hopefully the mechanicals are out of the way for the rest of the winter. Next time I intend to stay around for the stew, as the last few kilometers up the hill were a struggle.

Stew Ride Sunday
Planning for Stew Ride #2 on Sunday at 0900. Thinking about modifying the ride, and I would like your thoughts. This ride usually will take between 2.75-3hrs, depending on the weather and group. I don't know how many of us need this time/distance work. I, for one, don't feel it necessary, and am considering a ride which is more like 2hrs or so. I would like to keep most of the climbing, because it's intensity, not long, slow miles I'm looking for. If people are doing 50+mile races, then longer rides make sense, but otherwise, I'm not sure if the time/distance is necessary. For those who are interested in this ride, please post your thoughts/comments.

Have fun in Garmisch, Tim. Trying to keep it regular at every other week, but there will be lots of Stew Rides left to enjoy over the Winter!

Re: Stew Ride anyone??
see you mon. T
BTW. I really liked the stew route but am game to try a slightly shorter route w more intensity. We could try some staggered climbing where you try to catch us, could be truly painful....

Staggered climbing or staggering climbing? Don't think I like the "you try to catch us" thing either! Straight up KOM sounds good to me

I am interested in getting a ride in. As for the hours and distance, I am fairly flexible. Please share start location/pace details when available.
Thanks

Re: Stew Ride anyone??
I like the shorter time frame. I think the climbs would be good KOM stuff. Then on the flats and rolling terrian we could do some fast paceline or intervals. This is what will be needed for the racing scene next years. But you have to remember that you still need some base miles. The Paceline also will depend on the weather and group that we have.
I am good with some change.
See you Sunday at 9 your house. I will most likely ride over to meet you.
If something changes before had I will let you know
Jim
