MTB Tour 15 May Pirmasens
Is anyone interested in doing this? There are three distances 15km for the family, 25km 500hm, and 50km 1300hm. This should be a fun little tour around Pirmasens and entry is only 6 euro. Good fun for the whole family.

Can't view it online at work, but I might be convinced fairly easy to do the 25k. Not sure I have the time for a 50k since my daughter has a game that evening.

Newbie Q's
I might make it to this.
Questions:
1) Is registration that morning on site?
2) My German isn't so good - I see 0800, 1100 and 1500 on the poster - is it an open start time? And is it easy to navigate the routes despite the language barrier?
3) Does anyone know what the route is like? I like trails but not ones that are too rough (big gravel and roots (bad neck from past crashes)).
I'd bring my son but his track bus from Lakenheath returns at 0600 Sunday, and I'm thinking he'll just want to go to bed. If anyone more experienced is going and willing to show me the ropes, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Re: MTB Tour 15 May Pirmasens
I'd like to do this but it's going to be a game time decission I have to see how I'm feeling this weekend...
SueBee, it's hard to say how technical the trails are but if I were to guess I'd say it wont be to bad if they're calling it a Family MTB Ride...

@ SueBee
From what i understand registration is on site. The start time is between 0800-1100. I think you just register and then take off and ride. 1500 is when they start to sweep the course. Someone from the club had posted on another forum that it is mostly fire roads up and singletrack down. probably not to hard. The routes are usually very well marked. This will be my first time doing this event, so it is new for me too. I plan on hitting the 25km route. A couple of other folks have said the would like to ride it so maybe we can carpool or just meet there. Keep an eye on the forum for changes and updates. I would like to start early around 0830.

I'll be there in the morning and shoot for the 0830 start. I shared this ride with some other folks but not sure they'll make it.

I am apart of a group of 5 that are doing this ride as well, we will not be getting there at 800, but more like 900. It will be my wife, three of her coworkers and myself.
Not sure what route, but we will see

Just chatted with Steve abou this today. I think we are meeting at Gelterswoog to drive down at 7:30. We went for an easyish ride today, so we are looking at doing the 25k at an easy pace as well. I think one other is going too.

yup, 0730 at the Gwoog lot so we can try to be in Pirmasens by 0800 so we can start and finish early. If you want to carpool let meknow you are coming and meet us there.

I'll look for you at the sporthalle. I'm waiting on the Ramstein track bus to return from Lakenheath. They were due in at 0600 but are late and phones are off... grr..

Very nice ride today. Beat the rain to boot. Some really nice long climbs to push it on, and relaxing trails in between. Now to fix that fork that blew on me... Looks like I am about to lean about Manitou fork maintenance the hard way. Thankfully the internet has some service manuals.

Re: MTB Tour 15 May Pirmasens
Thanks everyone who showed up today. KMC Cycling was largest group out there. There were 4 in the early bird group and i think 5 or 6 in the group with Brian. It was a nice ride with a few challenges. The 15 back to back switch backs were nice.

I forgot about the prize for the largest club participation. If anyone needs free beer, we left it all with Steve...seeing as it was Alkoholfrei. What a shame.

Re: MTB Tour 15 May Pirmasens
It was a nice ride for us as well, although we got caught in the rain. Fortunately enough it stopped for us to finish the 25k route. I did not like the 15 switchback downhill but did appreciate the fact that there was some cool climbing.

@Brian
We saw you guys when you were getting ready to start the switchbacks. We were at the aid point taking a break. Did the ladies giving out the start numbers stop you guys at the end a take your pictures? Did you get some free beer?

Re: MTB Tour 15 May Pirmasens
Ah, we did hear some guys yelling and I thought that was you. No on the pictures and the beer, kind of disappointing knowing that it was available. The group I was with left something to be desired in terms of riding, but can't beat it for 8 euro. It was nice that there were't thousands of people out as well.

Re: MTB Tour 15 May Pirmasens
Was there good singletrack? I was worried there might not be any because of it being a family ride. It looks like you guys and gals had a good time.

Re: MTB Tour 15 May Pirmasens
Not much. A couple decents were single track, but it was mostly double track. You would have liked the one decent that literally had 15 switchbacks down the side of a mountain. It was switchback, ride 50 feet then switchback again all the way down a hill. Challenging. It was a nice ride. About the difficulty of the Woog ride on Thursdays minus the rock garden. I think we made some points with the folks at MTBclub-Pirmasens for sure. I have no problem supporting events like this to support neighboring clubs. Nice Sunday ride. Great to meet SueBee and get Kirsten back out on the trail too.

Re: MTB Tour 15 May Pirmasens
@ Slim
The 15km route was the family tour, the 25km and the 50km were what you would normally expect. The 50km looked like it had a lot more singletrack than the 25km.

Thanks for showing me "the way." I'm not quite ready for switchback hill yet....
