ODR beginner ride
On 27 march at 1000hrs, KMC Cycling in partnership with Outdoor Recreation on Ramstein Air Base will be hosting a beginner group ride from Ramstein Air Base. These rides are held at a very easy pace, and are family-friendly cycling path rides. Everyone is welcome to come out and join in, volunteer, assist, participate or whatever. If you plan on coming and want to help out post here. I am not sure who is leading this. I know a few of you went on a route recon a while back. Speak up if this is your gig.
Re: ODR beginner ride
The "Zenke Clan" will be attending and can provide assistance where ever needed!!! Do we need to sign up for this at ODR or just show up???

Re: ODR beginner ride
Well as you would have it. The Cubscouts are doing the Space Derby that day and I am the lead for this event. I will not be able to attend the ride as I had planned.
Krocko How about lunch tomorrow at the Hospital. I have to get some lab work done? let me know soon.

Re: ODR beginner ride
The calendar was a misprint. The time is still 10:00. KMC Cycling club members are volunteers to assist with the ride. Folks who sign up through ODR will pay the fee. I really hope you and Nicole can still make it!

Re: ODR beginner ride
If the ride leaders are volunteering, then what are people getting for their $30? Seems a bit exorbitant to me.

Re: ODR beginner ride
Chad: I think they get bike rental included in this fee. Not sure what else they get.
Mark: If you bring your family out and volunteer as a ride leader/assist, no, of course you don't have to pay the fee, HOWEVER, we have to be sensitive to a few things:
1-ODR is a busines and they are in it to make a profit.
2-We've decided to do at least one or two of these joint ventures with them, to help get the name of the club out there.
3-At some point, if there are more volunteers than confirmed ODR sign-ups, it gets a little silly, AND those who do sign up for the ride through ODR feel like they are the only few who have to pay a fee, instead of feeling like they are being provided a service.
4-If there is a strong showing, I will probably bring my daughter, and maybe my wife as well, but this will depend on how many ODR has signed up. I think if there is anything less than 10 signed up for the ride through ODR, then having more than 3 ride leaders/volunteers seems to be more leaders than led.
Kirsten, could you tell us a little bit more about the expectations etc. for this ride?

Re: ODR beginner ride
I sent Stephen an email at ODR asking him to fill us in on how many folks are signed up, whether we are stopping for food or not, and what is included for the price. I will let you all know as soon as I hear from him.
The price was set by ODR. I would feel happy to communicate any questions or concerns to Stephen.
Will let you know...

Re: ODR beginner ride
I don't want to embarress Greg but it feels right to publicly post what a great job he did with the ODR beginner ride yesterday! Thank you for coming up with such a great route (at the last minute). It felt a bit challenging but not too difficult and the guesthouse we stopped at was fabulous. I feel confidant saying our club was well represented! Happy Monday everyone

Re: ODR beginner ride
Kirsten, you're far too kind... I did feel pretty good about the ride overall though. There was one minor goof, where I thought we were at one place and instead we were at another, and I wasn't a t the lead so we got a little spearated for a minute or two, but managed to get the ride back on course. All in all not bad for a course we had to reroute the day prior.
What's most important is the feedback fromt hose who registered with and paid ODR, was all positive, and they seemed to feel like they got their money's worth. all in all for their $30 they did get a guided ride, a rental bike and a hamburger/hotdog grill party afterwards, so I think it ended up being a fair deal to them.
Steven and I talked about the three of us (he and I and Kirsten) getting together to do an AAR of the ride and set forth a plan for future rides. The overall idea worked out well, our club was represented in a positive way, and Steven is flexible about adjusting the price as well, so I think we ought to continue these.
