Hello, will be there in the summer
Hello all,
I am inbound this summer and can't wait to explore the trails in the area. Any advice on towns that would allow a fun commute that you could lace singletrack and fireroad to Ramstein would be greatly appreciated. For those with a liking to the all-day epic/tech trail/downhill side of things, we will get to know each other very well!

Re: Hello, will be there in the summer
Matt, welcome. If you look on google maps, any of the towns near landstuhl, and generally south of Ktown will put you in the middle of all of the best singletrack.
As far as commuting in, the biking here is very different than in the states. There are bike paths all over, and plenty of bike lanes as well. Commuting from anywhere by bike is much easier here than in the states. When there isn't a bike lane, or bike path, and you do have to share the road with cars, the drivers here tend to be a lot more consciencious.
Where are you coming from?

Hey Matt! Heard you are coming. Just proves how small the Air Force world is. I think the last time I rode with you was in 1997. You were riding a purple Cannondale if memory serves me correctly. Here is the website for a huge MTB area that shows a great trail network and the cities around it.

Welcome to KMC Cycling!
How long of a commute would you like to have? Queidersbach and Bann are two small towns with direct access to singletrack and fire roads going towards Ramstein and a short commute time.

I got with Ray Ray today and told him I would hook him up with some maps for when he helps you house hunt.

Not sure when you're coming, but my house will be available mid-June. It backs up to the woods in Melkerei and you can literally ride out the backyard gate onto the Castle trails.

Re: Hello, will be there in the summer
Thanks to everybody for the quick responses. Hope you all dont mind me responding to everybody in one post.
Matt...err Spookyload, it will be good to catch up! Let's see last time we were in Germany together...we were staying at that dorm accross from the club on Sembach. Good times!
Jonsey...I am coming from Yokota Air Base in western Tokyo Prefecture, Japan. Unbelievable trails if anyone is ever thinking about heading this way.
Dude76...I actually sent word to my sponsor to start looking for houses in Bann/Quidersbach for me. Nothing better than starting the workday with a ride in under the lights.
jvanhuis...We "should" get there in early to mid July and thanks for the lead on the house. I have two boys that love to ride and two small dogs. Need a house with a lot of storage and a landlord that is good with pets.
