Stew Ride 12 Jan depart 1000

Post by BigWheels on Mon Jan 06, 2014 9:35 am

Folks,

It is time to get the stew ride going for 2014, so let's try this weekend, Sunday the 12th, depart @1000 from my house in Reuschbach, route and distance can be determined by group, but I am thinking around 2 hours, followed by chili and beer at my house.  Could also throw on "A Sunday in Hell".  Pace will be conversational, no planned KOM's or sprints, may find some gravel/dirt if possible.

Post up if you plan on attending to ensure enough refreshments are procured.

Sunday, January 12th
1000 @ Krumme Acker 35, 66879 Reuschbach
Ride for about 2 hours, then return for a meal/beer
Pace determined by the group

I would like to attend but not too sure what "A Sunday in Hell" is. Is this following the Stew Ride or is it going to be the Stew Ride? I am new to the whole road riding gig so I will be at the back of the pack.
If there is gravel and dirt involved, I am not sure that I am interested in beating up my road bike too. That is what my MTB is for. Please let me know so I can plan accordingly.

"A Sunday in Hell" is a documentary film on the '76 Paris Roubaix, classic film with Merckx and Co. As far as the route, looks like this week's route can be all pavement, about 30 miles with only 1000 feet of climbing.

Oh, it's a movie...lol. I thought that is what you planned on calling the Stew Ride. I figured if you were calling it a ride from hell then there is no way that I could manage.
Unless some crisis comes up that keeps me from this ride, I am in.

Debating unpacking my road bike to come join the fun. I have been riding the Gatsby to work for the past month, and my shoulder is feeling good. Staying off the MTB for a few more months, though. Must confer with HH6.

I will be there! Glad airborne.s2000 is deciding to come as well. If the weather holds out I will host a ride from my place as well in a couple of weekends.

Spoke with HH6, and my orthopedist, and am cleared to ride. I unpacked my bike, but I need to do a quick tune up on it in the next couple of days. I will see everyone there.

Great, weather is looking dry for Sunday but a bit cooler with possible sunshine. So far, it seems at least 3 other folks are interested, and the ride will be entirely on pavement so you leg shavers are safe this time. There will be Belgium beer, chili, and brownies post ride, so don't miss this one!

Do you happen to have grid coords for this address? I can't seem to find it on Google Maps or Earth.

All, thanks for the cold icy ride. Would not have done that without the group!

Thanks all who showed up and braved the freezing temps and slick roads.  The clouds gave way to sunshine about half way and made it feel a millions degrees warmer.  A few links to bikeshops and events that were mentioned yesterday follow.
