Front derailleur compatability
Will a XT MTB front der work with a road compact crankset/rings? The XT is for a triple MTB and the road is a double. I think it will work, but just want to know if it will work GOOD. Thanks.

Re: Front derailleur compatability
How compact? XT is only meant for 44 or 48 max front chainring depending on which model. Not saying you COULDN'T make it work (plenty of stuff that isn't supposed to work can be made to work marginally), but you'd get a lot better performance from the appropriate road FD.

34x50. I'm going to be building up a cross bike and I have this der laying around. Once the frame gets here I'll seee if it works.fjaws wrote:How compact? The 2 FD's that are designed for a max of 44 teeth are the M770-E and the M771, all others will go to a 48.
What size clamp FD do you need?
