Access 29er Build

Post  Zenkem on Sat Dec 25, 2010 8:13 am

Just got my 29er frame a couple days ago and with a generous donation from Krocko1 and the advice of Slim my first 29er is coming in way under budget and a head of schedule...I might even have this thing built before the end of Jan 11.

I plan to use this ride mainly as a commuter but at the same time it will be competing with the C'dale for trail time. If my math is correct it will come in two lbs lighter then the C'dale.

Here's my laundry list of parts in the mail:

Kalloy Uno SP-712N Seatpost 31.6/350mm
Kalloy Uno ASA-105 Road Stem 110mm
Kalloy Uno AL-021 Riser Handlebar
Shimano SLX M660 Rapidfire Shifter Pods
Shimano SLX M660 Front Derailleur Top Swing
Shimano SLX M662 Shadow Rear Derailleur SGS Long Cage
Shimano SLX M660 Crankset w/ Bottom Bracket
Shimano Disc Brake Adapters SM-MA-F180P/S
Shimano Disc Brake Adapters SM-MA-R180P/S
WTB Inner Peace C Internal Threadless Headset Black, 1-1/8in
Crank Brothers Smarty Pedal Dark Grey/White
Giant Medium Expandable Wedge Seat Bag Black/Blue

Ordering these today:

Alligator Round Rotor F/B 180mm
Shimano CS-HG61 Cassette 12-36
WTB Pure V Race Saddle
Sette Blade Lock-on Grips
Lizard Skins Chainstay Standard

Been thinking 'bout putting Schwalbe Racing Ralphs 2.25 on because Wheelsports is offering them for a pretty good price...more to come...

Well, it's moving at a snails pace but at least it's moving. I decided to go with a Manitou Minute 100mm fork because the reviews were good and the price was right...I have to say "I like the look". I hope to have the rest of the parts by the end of the week which will pretty much complete the build, minus tires...more to come...

Looks like it. When we were in Florence over Christmas that beer was everywhere. Same for Rome.

You know, your build up would go a lot quicker if you did away with all those unneccessary derailers, cogs, shifters and chain rings Razz

Well, here she is after her maiden voyage and I have to say she feels well planted and track really well. The extra three inches set me back a couple gears on the climbs but I hope to get those back over the next month or so. I only have one ride with her and was pleased with the results but before I say I like the 29er better then the 26" I would need more Trail time which if the weather cooperates will be no problem.

I wanted to post the total price tag of the build but my online banking was down for maint...maybe their figuring it for me...my estimates as of now is just under $1K and a case of BEER...more to come...
