An unfortunate series of events
After an enjoyable Wednesday evening RR from Ramstein yesterday I went into an irregular heart rhythm, atrial fibrillation, on the way home. Spent the night in the ER/ICU and was shocked back into a normal sinus rhythm this morning. Soooooo, I am having to pull out of the upcoming events I was committed to, including the MTB Series race this weekend and SIS. I probably won't be able to join for another Wednesday night ride either before I leave, but I'm encouraged by the new faces which are sure to join the ranks as "regulars" on the ride. I will probably take it easy and just commute to work on the bike to maintain fitness before I head out in early September. I was really looking forward to SIS this year, but it looks like I will be a spectator yet again! If anyone has a road, cross or MTB they are willing to lend to someone who will look after it like it was his own...let me know.

Chad,
Sad to hear, but you're not the first cyclist I've known this to happen to--a former Excel Sports team mate (monster cyclists--7X world and 22X national master championships titles) of mine went through this for a long time before he finally got a handle on his condition. He created a website that chronicles this condition--http://www.afathletes.info/AFIB/Welcome.html
Glen was trained as a research scientist at the University of California School of Medicine and at the Cardiovascular Research Institute UCSF so he does have credibility. He's also a really nice guy and I'm sure he would answer any of your questions (if you have any). If you speak with him let him know you're a buddy of mine.
Good luck, matt

Get well Chad. Looks like a trend that we are visiting LRMC before PCS.

Dude, what the hell? Not enough Macdonalds in your diet or something? That's outrageous. Get well!

Chad/Velo-Doc:
so sorry to hear about this...really bizarre. Have you ever had any other heart issues or related symptoms? Do you think you'll be able to ride again? Is there anything you have to worry about in the future. In any case, hope you get better.

Chad,
Sorry to hear that. Don't know much about it. However, I have a bike you can borrow if you still need one.

Re: An unfortunate series of events
Thanks all for the well wishes. I'm doing fine and taking it easy for a while. As Matt alluded to, a-fib is not uncommon among athletes, and this is my second episode, so I wasn't taken completely by surprise. I don't plan to stop riding, but may be a bit more structured about my approach to it. @Matt..I will definitely check out your friend's website. I still plan to be at the club social event at the end of August, so I hope to see you all there!
