I'll be there in hardtail mode, and derailleur-free... ugh. Davide, you need to put pressure on the bike shop- the freeride trails are open!

This weeks ride will be my first with you all--finally! Do you all park at the castle or do you ride up?

Most park at the parking lot directly in front of you as you crest the steep hill from the hotel...so they park near the castle. I will not be there this week.

Turns out, I will be there for the ride. Now I just have to choose between the 29r hardtail or the 26r full suspension. Life is full of difficult decisions.

I ride up, but, in addition to being a little crazy, I live at the bottom of the hill.

If you are riding, I'll come too. I may bring a friend, if not I'll be riding the Fuel (my buyer bowed out).

Since I didn't hear by the time I left work, I assumed no interest and committed to honey-do chores instead. Sad Next week? Else, I'll see y'all Thurs.

notdeadyet and I had a nice ride out towards the Bann soccer field and back. Rode one section three times, since we doubled back to find his lost front fender. Nice ride, beautiful day. See everyone on Thursday, I hope.

anybody riding this week--I'll be there unless it's storming like crazy--and remember, the rain just washes the mud off.

I'll be there as long as the rain isn't heavy, but only riding for 20km or less. Last Thursday ended up being over 50km for me, I was exhausted, and my shoulder still hurts.

hmmm.....good question and I'm not the best person to answer as I've only been mtb riding here for a couple of months. that being said the soil here seems to handle the wet better than say Colorado clay. back there the ruts would stay for months but the trails here seem to recover very quickly so IMHO it's not much of an issue. maybe others with more experience could chime in though as I'm clearly not the expert.

The soil in this area has very little clay content. Clays integrate water molecules into their crystal lattice, causing swelling and closing of soil capillaries. This barrier is called an aquatard, and one of the effects is increased runoff and decreased infiltration. Locally, our 1.8 meters/year of rainfall ( Shocked ) passes through the permeable sand to groundwater with amazing efficiency. Most of the places in the Pfalz are not prone to water rutting. The weathering and organic cycling of this forest is so dramatic that you won't recognize your own regular trails from season to season. This ain't California. It's more like Florida with mountains.

That said, the only thing the rain will do to the Tuesday ride route is make the rocks a little slick, but not as slick as accumulation of autumn leaves does. Just about everything local is totally rideable in the rain.
