Inbound - Had to find the local riding club!

Post by Taz77 on Fri Feb 22, 2013 3:41 pm

Hello,

I'm inbound into the KMC area this spring coming from the US. I had to find the cycling club and information first thing. Looking forward to getting there and also very interested in what riding can be found in the local area and within a short drive! I ride a little of everything, but I love challenging trails. I also plan on getting back into DH racing if I can figure out the whole UCI license goat rope.

I'm thinking of flying over with a bike as luggage just to have some mode of transportation and maybe find some trails to ride close to where I'll be temporarily staying until all of our stuff arrives from the states.

Welcome to the community. There is a ton of XC riding in the KMC area, and we ride it all the time. A small group of us is getting more into aggressive riding this season, and are heading to France for Megavalanche this July. Give a shout when you get here, someone will offer a lift to where we are riding, all you have to do is ask.

Awesome!

I am badly out of shape and looking forward to getting back to where I once was. I raced Cat I DH for a number of years then a move and other things in life got turned upside down and I haven't raced since 2009.

I SOOOOOO want to do a Megavalanche race! That's like a bucket list item!

I like all riding but mostly mountain bikes. I do have a road frame and fork I will be building up when I get to Germany. I also got a 26" hard tail I will probably sell once I get there.

Anyone know if there are any BMX tracks around the KMC area?

Welcome to the KMC Cycling. There is not much DH racing in the area, sorry. But there is a never ending supply of single track. Try this for a BMX track http://www.bikepark-pirmasens.de/index.htm it is about 20 minutes down the road from us.

There is a pump track near downtown Kaiserslautern, and a Dirtpark in Trippstadt (http://www.bikepark-trippstadt.de). I don't know BMX specific stuff, but someone else might.

Awesome! I love pump tracks. I have a 24" mountain bike I like to play around with on pumptracks, bmx tracks, and dirt jumps.

That is GREAT! Excited! I live about 50 miles from Highland MTB park here in the states http://highlandmountain.com/. I usually do 20+ days a year at highland.

We have a slot open for accommodations at Megavalanche, if you are interested. One of our talented descenders came down on orders, so holler if you are interested.

There is also Flowtrail Stromberg, http://www.flowtrail-stromberg.de/
...and Flowtrail Ottweiler, http://www.flowtrail-ottweiler.de/
...and Beerfelden, http://www.bikepark-beerfelden.de/
...and last but definitely not least, Winterberg http://www.bikepark-winterberg.de/en/

if you follow slopestyle/freeride/downhill, you'll probably have heard of Winterberg.

Who got orders beside me? BTW, I am not dropping my reservations for the Mega. If I can take leave, I will be flying back to attend it.

Hell yeah, good to hear, Eric! Shouldn't have assumed... Embarassed
Either way, there is still room in the apartment at l'Alpe d'Huez for one or two more!

Touched down this week! My DH bike won't be here till June. I have half of my trail bike here now but my rear wheel and tools are in transit via the postal service.
Nursing a broken toe right now that occurred during moving... Bum luck. Hopefully by the time my tools and rear wheel get here I can ride again!
