Post by velo-doc on Thu Feb 07, 2013 1:05 pm

Looking to get a Presidents Day(Mon Feb 18th) ride and meeting scheduled. Post up your ideas for ride and eat venues. Nanstein will be the fall-back plan.

Just an idea- the Barbarossa bakery in Hohenecken has a lot of seating space. We could do the meeting, then head over to Gelterswoog. Easy access to familiar turf may bolster turnout.

Ya, I like it. Pretty central location, and good trails that we know. Let's see what other suggestions we get, then I'll post up the plans by next Monday.

I haven't ridden the 'woog since last summer. I am game for the Bakerei.

All,

We will have the February club meeting on Monday the 18th. Assuming that most folks have Presidents Day off. We will meet at the Barbarossa bakery in Hohenecken at 1000. Plan for approx 1hr meeting, then off to the Gelterswoog for a ride. Please see link below for location of the bakery.

Main items for discussion:

1. Treasurer's report, including reestablishing the bank account.
2. Plans for the 2013 season events: Bike rodeo, race promotion, Armed Forces Europe MTB Series, Meet and Greet.
3. Club promotion: Flyers, meetings on Ramstein, weekly rides from Ramstein gym, etc
4. Partner club: possibility of partnering with a local German club for functions, races, events, etc.
5. Hail and farewell party.
6. Open forum.

Wreck!

Post by airborne.s2000 on Tue Feb 19, 2013 7:05 am

I rode home from the ride through the woods towards Bann. Outside of Bann I intersected a hardball road descending into Bann, and took that road. Almost into Bann, once I reached ~30km/hr, the road was under construction, completely blocking the road.

I braked quickly, too quickly (damn good brakes, the Formula RX), and flipped over the bars onto the street. Dinged up a couple of spots, hurt my wrist, tore a hole in my nice Icebreaker shirt (blast!), and smacked my helmet into the concrete.

I am very impressed with the Rudy Project helmet I was wearing; I got up, and aside from being a little dizzy, I was, and am, fine. I finished my ride home without incident (the bike was unharmed except for a new scratch on the left side grip clamp and the KS remote).

I am now in the market for a new MTB helmet. I sent Rudy Project a note asking if they wanted the helmet for research purposes, as I can see a crack in the closed cell foam on the opposite side of the helmet from the impact. (John, would you like the innards of my helmet? They are still in good shape, and I have a complete set that is still new in the bag.)

Sorry to hear of the spill, Bobby. I know exactly where you are talking about descending into Bann. Hope you aren't getting more sore today.

Get well soon,

This is a joke:: "This unplanned dismount at high speed would not have happened on a 29er, word"

As far as helmets go, Fox Flux'es are the best helmets I have used, to date. Helmets used before were: Giro Animas (to roadie looking) and a Giro Zen (Thought is was awesome until I used a Flux).

I am considering a POC helmet as a replacement. Just got an email from RP offering 50% off MSRP on a replacement. Since I only pay 50% for RP products anyway (Promotive.com,) that isn't much help. The POC Trabec helmets have been popping up on chainlove quite a bit recently, so I may be able to pick one up cheaply.

I bought a Lazer Oasiz in white/red/black from TreeFortBikes, marked down to $38. I have a cheap PX special I can wear until it shows up. I have a Lazer road helmet I really like, especially the Rollsys sizing system, so I hope this one is as good. (Looks like I am picking up all sorts of Lopes sponsors' items)
