New Road Tires?
I received my new Light Bicycle carbon wheelset in the mail yesterday. I have already ordered Swissstop Yellow pads for my brakes, and 3 new, long stem, tubes so pumping them up isn't obnoxious. Last piece of the puzzle: new tires.
I know I want to stick with 25mm tires, as I have been very happy with the Conti Gatorskin 700cx25 tires I have on the bike now (and will stay on the original rims for daily use). However, I would like something a little more worthy of my new, much lighter, rims (new wheelset is 580g F, 751g R).
Bring on the suggestions and arguments. I do still have the Bontrager 700cx23 tires that came on the bike, which I can use while I decide.

Re: New Road Tires?
Are you using them for commuting? If so, go flat resistant. Doesn't make much sense to put a 350g tire on a light carbon wheel set though. My personal tire of choice is Michelin ProRace 3. Light and handle very well. I have used Conti Grand Prix but felt they wear fast. Have heard good things about the schwalbe ultremo, but they are too pricey in the US to venture into that area. Their tubeless system is supposed to be an amazing feel with the Stan's kit. You also get the flat protection of tubless to boot. Runs about $200 in the states though.
You bought a pimp lightweight wheel set. Put some tires that match and not commuting clunkers. What makes you stick with 25mm tires? Great for commuting and foul weather riding, but 1200g carbon wheels aren't usually used for either of those as braking will suck in cruddy wet weather. Even with the yellow pads. Sort of a right tool for the right job scenario.

Re: New Road Tires?
25mm seems a good compromise given the weight of the rider+bike system (~105kg). With 25s, I can run ~100 PSI easily, which gives a comfortable ride. Ride quality is important to me, since my weekend rides, and the events I sign up for, tend to be in the 3+ hours in the saddle variant.
I'll save the commuting clunkers for my Al rims, which will become dedicated for commuting/training, which is why I am looking into other tires for the svelte carbon rims.
Currently considering Conti Ultra Race, though I may go nicer. I have been pleased with Continental, I have them on my SS commuter, and on my training rims. I haven't looked at schwalbe's road tires yet, but am really impressed with the Hans Dampfs I have on the Mojo.

Scwalbes are very nice but insanely expensive in the states. You should be able to get deals in Germany. A very nice tire if you can find it is The veloflex corsa tire. They are made in Italy and have a feel like nobody's business. Made in the old Vittoria factory before production was moved to Taiwan. You won't find a clincher that rides more like tubular. They make 25mm at 205g.

Veloflex- ha! Save the silk tires for the track. They will blow out when they wear out.
I've worn through a few sets of Contis and two sets of Mich pro 3s. My favorite go-to tire is without a doubt the Vittoria Rubino Pro. They grip better than michelins and last twice as long as contis, and at 240 TPI they roll smooth. Most importantly, they are the most flat-resistant tire I've ever (ever!) used. I think I've gone through six sets of Vittorias by now. In case you didn't know, I'm particular about my equipment, and don't choose parts just because the colors match.

Re: New Road Tires?
While the debate is interesting, I made a choice of a Schwalbe tire I think I will like (which DOES match my bike, as I am that kind of guy), the Lugano HS. If I am happy with those, I may move up to a higher level tire, but money is still a bit of an issue right now. The Lugano's were only 33EUR for a pair, so they should make a good starter set.

Veloflex doesn't use silk. They use 320 TPI corespun casings. Veloflex is a very cool company. They are made in the old Vittoria factory before Vittoria outsourced all of their stuff to Asia. Veloflex is comprised of former Vittoria employees who thought they could make the bike tires lighter and faster. And they did just that saving the community and factory Vittoria abandoned. The added bonus is they do make a competition quality tire in 20, 23, and 25mm.

Re: New Road Tires?
Veloflex service course tires are silk, the others are cotton (might shrink in the dryer). I've never bought a $160 tire or a $40 parch kit, so I'm mostly talking out of my ass.
