Monday night is ideal, if it can be done safely. Emphasis on safe. That gives us Tues to ride, which is what I would want. Bobby, point your GPS to l'Alpe d'Huez, via Metz, Nancy, Dijon, Lyon, and Grenoble, exiting Germany at Saarbrücken. Best route.

We can get some rest Monday eve, and head out around midnight. Get a nap in Huez, then draw bibs and get some runs in.

Agree on the routing. We went through Geneva when we went and paid with flesh for gas in Switzerland, and the tolls between France and Switzerland were insane. There are two amazing bike shops at the base in Bourg d'Oisans. Bobby, you should definitely ride the Alpe d'Huez climb if you can pack a road bike. It will wake you up for sure! Rentals in town are week only rentals during the Tour, so don't plan on renting if you go.

Bourg d'Oisans is our meet point for the apartment keys.  Might be fun to look at them bike shops...  I have plans for the road climb... I wanna bomb those switchbacks gravity style. That would be the best way for me to pay tribute to Pantani, Tommy V, and Chaingate.

It is an amazing climb isn't it? My time was about the same and I was happy because I beat Cheryl Crows time of 92 minutes. The descent was just too short for all that work.

The climb wasn't as good as Mt. Ventoux; it was shorter and didn't have the extremes of grade. Also, there was too much traffic, cyclo, auto, and pedestrian.

Megavalanche Amateur Race is tomorrow at 1000, I am heading up the mountain at 0830. Hopefully, my Replay won't have issues on this run. (I got some water in it, and my last few videos are too hazy to be of use.)

If you want steep and painful, do the steep side of Galibier. It isnt' too far from where you are. Maybe a 30 minute drive. The steep side has grades that hit 16-18%.

Well, the Mega Amateurs ride injured me, but, thankfully, it was the last day of the trip. One OTB moment, and my shoulder was dislocated. Only got 1/3 of the way through the ride, and I am pretty bummed about that. At least I didn't break any bones.

That vid sums it up for the glacier section! Minus the pushing at the lower end, of course. The rocky rails are similarly steep...

So did you guys have fun?  The suspense of photos and commentary on your experience are killing me. That glacier beginning is freaking amazing. Guys just sliding down the mountain on their tails.
