MEGAVALANCHE: 12-14 July 2013
Here's the deal- You, your trail bike, and 200 other altitude-sick goons bombing down L'alpe d'Huez, from 3300 meters down to the valley floor in 35 km. Glaciers, climbs, singletrack, and berms. Sounds good to me.
Entry is about 100 EUR, and we can take the hippie van...
I believe this event lies comfortably between "feasible" and "stupid"
-in other words, just right. You know who you are, and if this applies to you... then let's f'king do it!

I'm getting stoked on this. Thanks, Brian! Now to get Steve, Daniel B., Eric, and Buler on board...
I'm going to put together a training program specifically for this event. Upper body, arms, core, and plenty of practice. Stay tuned.

Nope, that's a hard tail. Shock in the front. I plan to go with my 'Noshox 1800mm travel fork.'

Re: MEGAVALANCHE: 12-14 July 2013
Registration is supposed to start in January... I'll post when it is announced. I'll just assume that the registration goes down a bit like Gaesbock, so I'll be refreshing page on the hour...
I'd also like to take count for reserving the Hotel. Double, triple, and quad rooms are going for 50GBP per person per night. I'd like to do Wednesday through Saturday. Not bad overall. This is for a joint that is right at the lift... I'm assuming that will be booked soon.
New (to me) bike for the event is at the mailroom waiting to be picked up... Excited to go play on the jumps and berms and get rad training up for ride.

Add me to the hostel roster. If you need cash or credit card digits, let me know.
Hmmm, does anyone happen to have an size medium, 8 inch travel FSR or DW Link frame for sale? My Taka with the single point suspension sucks way to much for this trip.
Otherwise I'll be using the Stumpjumper Evo 29 with some sort of beefy wheel set.

Thanks for committing, Eric. I'll just pony up the reservation deposit, and then we can split costs in July.
From what I have read, a trailbike in the 150-180mm range is supposed to be ideal. I shopped for a DH rig because I want to do more freeride this year, and goal-setting with a capstone event is a strategy that produces good results with me.

Re: MEGAVALANCHE: 12-14 July 2013
Just looked at the Tour de France schedule for 2013. The stage that goes up Alpe de Huez twice is on 18 July. You guys will want to jump on hotels fast because the town at the base of the climb and the ski area at the top fill up the week prior and after very soon. This is the epic stage of the tour in the last twenty years, and the first time they will climb it twice in the same stage, so it will be slammed to the gills.

This sounds like fun! I'm not sure where I will be living, come July. As soon as I find out I may join in the fun. Even if it means an open bivy in the park.

Eric, I just found this [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
That's got me feeling a little burnt after forking out more than I care to admit on a used Pivot Phoenix. Put some Fox 36 forks on that byotch and you have a 180mm killing machine. That said, I have 2 sets of DH bars and some 200mm rotor Marta brakes to get rid of... build up on the cheap!
I'll update later on the hotel. It will be about 100 USD each for deposit assuming four people. I have a feeling if we miss this reservation opportunity, we'll be washing our butts with baby-wipes in the parking lot for 4 days. Frankly, I'd like to smell fresh and be chafe-free. I'm holding out to hear from powerpro and Daniel B, until then the count is three.

Re: MEGAVALANCHE: 12-14 July 2013
LOL, 1399 is what I paid for the Taka, complete...Supposedly Ariborne is coming out with a new DH frame soon, maybe I can wait for that...
or:
I have a beat up 6" Specialized Pitch frame that I can throw my 200mm fork on and maybe be OK for a run or two, before something brakes...
Anyway, yea, I would prefer to have a room as opposed to living out of my awesome chevy van.....

Re: MEGAVALANCHE: 12-14 July 2013
Registration opens 15 January. There is a 20% discount for three tix, and 25% for four if we enter as a group.
If we want practice runs, we need to arrive Tuesday night (9th July) because Wednesday is the only open day, and Thursday the mountain is closed for course prep. Seeding is Friday, and every participant gets a crack at the Mega either Sat or Sun depending on the Friday heat placement.
I will reserve an apartment for the 9th to the 14th, it looks like that is the cheapest option and lets us store the bikes inside. Packing our own food will save money.
